As you have mentioned that there was no problem to run the game with Windows Vista and so my suggestion to you is to get the program installed in the capability mode. For this, you can go through the steps given below.

First of all, right click on the icon for the program.
Select properties.
Now click the compatibility tab.
Go to the compatibility section and there select the checkbox for “Run this program in compatibility mode for:”
From the drop down, just choose windows Vista.
From the privilege level, select "Run this programs as an administrator".
Finally click on Apply > OK.

Microsoft has removed the game InkBall in windows 7 but for those who do not like them we can play but I have the solution. Go to C: \ Program Files \ Microsoft Games create a folder with the name and download this InkBall content in the folder created, create a shortcut in games folder and all programs open the exe file and have fun.

Hey, what is the version of the steam that you are using? My suggestion to you is to see for the Microsoft Compatibility center. This will suggest that the steam is not totally compatible with the Windows 7 64 bit operating system.

If you are a 64 bit Windows 7 user then there is more possibility that you will face the problems like this so. Anyways, what you can do with this is just end/close all the applications that you are running in the background and when you are done with that then you can try to connect that again. See if this time it can make any difference or not.

I am using the Toshiba Satelittle Laptop and facing one problem with that. Actually whenever I try to open the programs in the laptop then it shows me the Runtime Error 8002 invalid port. This is the first time that I am getting this message and so I wish to get this resolved as early as possible. Is this happened only when you try to open any of the programs in it or only when you try to open some specific program? If the problem is with some specific program then this is not the problem with the hardware or with the operating system. So you must check that if the software that is creating problem is compatible or not.

It is possible that there are some of the other programs running in the background of the computer and for that reason you are facing this issue. So just check that what ae the programs running in the background. If you found that there is any program running without any reason then you can simply end that process and see if you are getting the same message again or not . This is one of the most basic reasons for such issues and it becomes the cure for such issues and so I hope that it will also do the same for you.

Now there is also a column of rating them as well. there were 5 empty stars in it and I went ahead and rated them. But I was not able to fill up the starts why is that so? Do I need some separate programs to fill up that stars or is it something else, please tell me about the same. I am waiting to hear it from you all. So do reply accordingly.

Ok that’s a strange probably you should check out the user permissions by going into the account as admin and checking whether the user in which you have logged in as the full read/write access or not. I think you should do that. Probably you will get a better idea.

I don’t think so folders have any options to rate them it must be of the file. You can definitely rate the file and not the folder. I hope you did understand. Here is how you should do that
1) Right click on the file and go to properties.
2) In the Properties dialog box, click on the Details tab.
3) Two separate columns will be shown one of them is the property and the other is the value. Click on the stars that you want to rate and that’s it.

Linux redirects me to initramfs on startup
Bought a new hard drive to add in my system. Now I planned to set 180GB of hard drive into two partitions, one for Windows 7 and another for Linux natty and the extra partition of 20GB for using Windows and Linux sharing files.

But I somehow did some mess with the Fstab while adding the new hard drive to mount point. I guess I deleted the swap space in the fstab.

Now the problem is that every time after booting, selecting Linux or Linux recovery mode does not makes any sense, I mean selecting either of them sends me to the initramfs prompt and due to this I am unable to do anything from then. Now I just wanted to know how to reestablish fstab as it was before.

I did the same thing in my system too but in my case I am unable to access both the Linux and the Window 7 properly. I divided my hard drive into the same partition as you did, one for Windows 7 and the other for Linux.

But now when I access my windows 7 partition, it works properly but know don’t for what reason it works too slowly. I guess it’s out of space. And when I go into Linux it redirects me to the initramfs, from after there I am unable to do anything. Even if I go into the Linux recovery mode, it’s of no use. I can’t even access sdb5 where my Linux partition is present. I am also completely helpless same as you.

Why don’t you try out with Linux Puppy. Using that you will be easily getting access to the sdb5 and hopefully also the other partitions if possible.

If this doesn’t work, try the Live CD natty.

As you said I tried doing with Linux Puppy it worked fine and also the other partitions were easily able to mount but thing didn’t work with that of sdb5. And when tried the Live CD natty it said that I will have to delete the complete disk. I just wanted to anyhow stop the Linux from entering initramfs at the time of booting or after booting. And also to get the system configuration files back to its default condition as it was before the editing.

In order to restore your fstab system configuration what you need to do is to boot off the live CD or puppy using the following command I have mentioned below:
sudo fdisk -1

Now this will easily help you to list your connected hard drives, partitions and all other information.

Also would like give you an advice, try to use root terminal instead of ordinary terminal.

Ok, so first of all I guess what you need to do is along with the donotdisplaylastusername you will have to also adjust the value of the registry key to 1. Make sure while editing the registry, take the backup create the manual restore point and also try to export key to safer side.

The following is the path for it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

There, "NoWelcomeScreen" changes the value 0 to 1.

If thing won’t work out or no changes takes place, make sure to do the additional changes as per my suggestion.

Computer/HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Now going into the above path what you need to do is to make the additional changes to the registry which you have already been adopted.

Hey friend it didn’t work for me. When I went according to your first suggestion the problem I faced was that I didn’t find any “NoWelcomeScreen” in the registry. In fact I made a new dword by myself but it still didn’t change anything. Not yet tried the second option, I will definitely try them and let you know.

Just wanted to make sure one thing, are the value set for the HideFastUserSwitching and LogonType are 1 and 0 respectively?

Hello I am basically from india and right now residing in germany. I had a copy of windows 7 but it seems I forgot it in india only. So that’s why I was searching for a English copy license of windows 7? But everywhere I am ending up getting the german product license and not the English one. One of my colleague is having the windows 7 DVD. So I just want to know if I can install a Win 7 English DVD and use a German product license for it to run. Will that be possible?

I am really confused with this. Some advise is very much needed from you all.

I don’t think so that would be possible with the home premium edition. So I would not like to recommend you by going with that method. Instead I would say you should check out some online stores like ebay and flipkart and there are chances that you might get the product that you were looking for. I hope that was enough for you. Hi, if you want you can pay some more money and get the multi language pack of windows 7 ultimate edition. Since I don’t think so you will be able to get a English language pack with the German edition at all. So you will do that only.

Why cant you do that, well it is very much possible to do here is what you have to do, once the windows is installed, go to the windows update and look under optional downloads. You will be able to find the whole long lists of languages that you want to select.

Select the one that you want to download as well as install. It will continue with the process. That’s what I am saying here. so I hope you did understand what I have said here.

Why don’t you save a file of windows 7 in the hard drive before beginning with the installation of the windows 7. I think that would be a good method to go with.

See whenever I want to install it in the hard disk I format it before only. Now whenever I am going to install the windows 7, it does not create the system partition. After that I get an error message saying “Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition 1.” On clicking to view the details it gives a long message “Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that this disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.”

Why don’t you do it with the help of a windows 7 CD . In case if your netbook is not having the cd drive then I would advise you to get a external cd or dvd drive and load the windows CD or DVD from there and then begin with the installation. So that’s how it is done.

Hi you should first check out the minimum system requirements of the windows 7 to see if your netbook is supported or not. So do check out this link and you will get all the necessary details. Hey even I was in such requirement. From last 1 month even I insisted many people to recommend me with some trick to queue up the process in nautilus. I also contacted the tech support people regarding the issue. But one of the person said that they are currently not supporting queuing file operations.

They also told me even if I need such thing then I will have to patch libnautilus/nautilus-file-operations.[ch].

I can’t believe this. How come it is possible that Ubuntu has no such idea or technique in order to queue up the file coping process in nautilus? I thought there might be some feature developed or existing for this issue with Ubuntu, friends let me tell you, even windows has such kind of functionality in it. No matter whether have it with as a 3rd party application.

Is it that the developers of Ubuntu do not want to queue up of the file coping operation, also wanted to know that why they didn’t list this feature as a standard feature till now. I would pleasingly request the tech team to get a built in file operation queue system.

Instead of depending on the developer or the tech support team just find out the solution by yourself that could incorporate into Nautilus. Even I was in search of such feature from past 2 months consulting the tech support people but they never responded and thereafter I decided to get a solution by myself and then I came up with some alternative file copier that could support file transferring using the queuing up support.

You can choose either of the two which I am suggesting:

Ultracopier
MiniCopier

Yeah that’s a great idea which even I would have suggested you go for. But if asked me about the best one amongst two above mentioned file copier than I would have went for Ultracopier. It’s fast and efficient.

It is free and open source software that acts as a replacement for files copy dialogs. The main and the most interesting feature of it is that it can support multiple file transfer at a time in a queue without freezing.

Its main features are:

It has play and pause option
It also has speed limitation
On-error resume
It can manage error and collision
You can download its current version 0.2.0.16, and I guess not only for Ubuntu but also it is compatible for other OS.

I guess MiniCopier is also not the least one. In fact currently I am using the same one in my system and I am seriously very much impressed.

For you convenience i would like to give some interesting and best features of MiniCopier:

Keeps on transferring one after another
Add another new file to the queue while a copy is already being processed
It can also cause a copy
Can also limit the speed of the copy
Skip current transfer to proceed to the next one
Resume a copy at the exact point where it failed (no need to start over)

Hello to all,
I have this problem from last two days. I have Hp computer with Windows 7 installed. When I open multiple window like Windows Live Mail, windows media player, Firefox browser or something else, all of a sudden all opened windows disappear and after some times like after 5 seconds all disappeared windows again reappear and started running. I don't know what happened to it. I don't know why open windows disappear for 5 seconds In windows 7. Please help me to fix this problem.

Hey this is not any kind of problem in your windows 7. This is one of the most advanced feature that is added in windows 7. This feature is used to see your desktop while multiple windows are opened. you can find this feature at the bottom right of your screen, at the right of clock, there will be little transparent box which enables you to see your desktop. You can disable this feature in following way.
Just right click on the that box and unchecked the "show desktop" option.

I also had the same problem then I able to solve this problem by using following steps.
First click on start button -> now click on all program option -> now select accessories option -> now select system tool option -> now select system restore option -> now select restore tile to 2 days ago and select ok -> now delete all the application installed after that day.
Now you will not get any problem.

From your information it seems that you have installed software like "Hide Any Window" in your computer and that's why you are getting such type of problem. such type of software easily hide windows from desktop. Such type of software hide all type of running programs, applications and games. It also hide programs & games from Task Manager. So if you don't want such type of software then uninstall this software from your computer to fix this problem.

From your information it seem that your computer is affected with some kind of deadly virus and that's why you are getting such type of problem. In this case you have to remove those virus from your computer to fix this problem. Use Anti-virus to remove virus from your PC. NO - exact same problem with NEW Win7Pro System - NO Virus - client will be working "typing web based e-mail or Excel SS" and the windows disappear and you only see the desktop w/icons. Then you move the wireless mouse or wireless KB and the windows come back. And YES "NO" KB key or mouse key was pressed. Like a magic trick for sure. I have even installed a different brand of wireless mouse/KB (went from Logitec to DigInovations). Same issue. - no data is lost just the frustration that the windows come and go.

I also turned off aero features per MS and also the option under "ease off access" -> "make it easier to focus..." -> selected "prevent windows from being re-sized...."

Even I agree with you that it should be called as a bug and not a feature of windows 7 which is very annoying. Hope that this bug isnt patched in Windows 8 as well, or atleast microsoft should show us a way to disable it completely.

Today I have got a new motherboard GA-970A-UD3. It is a very beautiful motherboard with some interesting features. After configuring it, I have installed the Linux opensuse 12.1 with KDE4.7.2 and it works great. But I didn’t get the Easytune6 for Linux. It seems to me that Easytune6 and Easy Energy Saver not available for Linux.

I didn’t get what you want to do with easytune6 right now. Whether you want to do overclocking or simply monitoring values. For both purposes, there are plenty of applications available for Linux and they will work in the similar manner as Easytune6 and Easy Energy Saver. You don’t need to rely only on Gigabyte products. Some of them get you good result as compared to Easytune6.

As far as I know that Gigabyte Easytune6 and Easy Energy Saver, both are model specific and they have nothing to do with the version of Linux. I don’t know for what reason you are not getting these utilities. Gigabyte have no reason to restrict these 2 functionality for their motherboard. You might need to double check it properly. Something might have been missing there.

Description of my setup: I have VMware 4.0.0, Both host and guest OS are Linux distros.

I have Mesa 7.8 running on guest OS. I want to achieve hardware acceleration using svga driver of Mesa.

The required libraries and kernel objects are successfully built and available in expected paths. (vmwgfx.ko, vmwgfx_drv.so, vmwgfx_dri.so).

Problem: startx never loads vmwgfx_dri.so, instead it loads swrast_dri.so. Hence it falls back to Software Rasterization.

I have found that the Cursor Fx has stopped applying cursors whereas the "Default" Windows Cursor is not being displayed, other than this I have also checked out the Task Mgr but then the program is not shown there as well, I have tried uninstalling from the Impulse and Revo Pro as well but then they have not helped, is there anyone who can help.

I am not very sure but then I just wanted to know if you have downloaded a new cursor and so, I had faced the same with older cursors but then they were broken and uninstalling and then reinstalling the same and then rebooting the machine has helped me out, I think that the same should have helped you as well. If you are using Revo then make sure that you are setting it to moderate and let it remove everything which gets highlighted.

By now I have tried out the below solutions but then it has not helped:

I have reinstalled the cursor and have tried picking every CFX file
I have also removed registry entry as well as the Prefetch files and after that I had tried to reinstall it.

No matter what I have tried so far the issue is still the same, I wanted to know that from where does the CFX draw the default windows? Anyone is having an idea about this??

I think that I can help you out here, just follow the below steps:

First open the cmd prompt and make sure that you are running it as an administrator.
When you get the DOS screen just type “sfc /scannow” make sure that you are typing it without the quotes and there is a space between sfc and /scannow as well.

This should help you in fixing it out, just try it out and then let me know what you get.

Even I was having problem with the CursorFX (Free Version) and I was running Win 7 Home Premium but then I did not had to re-install CursorFX in order to use Win 7 to reset the cursor but then I just had to right click the Desktop and after that choose the Personalize option and change the mouse pointer, after this I had just reset it to Aero default and then things were fine, just do the same and see if it is helping.

I am running windows 7 in my system and the problem that I am facing is that when I am opening explorer then the page is getting bigger after it is opened or a new one is created and this happened with the folders and IE 8 as well, is there anyone who has an idea about the same and help me in overcoming it, other than this I also wanted to share that when I am check marking the " Use windows Aero frame" it is working fine but then it is losing the skin frame.

Is it happening with the skins that we get with the WindowBlinds?
Have you tried using the Corporate or Precision?

I have solution for this and for that you have to create a virtual RAMDisk. It is really what the name describes. It makes some part of system's RAM as storage. After creating virtual RAMDisk, I tried the CrystalDiskMark for benchmarking and I have noticed that it was really faster than SSD. But the drawback is you have to give up some space for RAM for this. With few GB of RAM you can actually get 3000+MB/s Read & Write speeds.

Have you tried the Windows Defragmenter?

In my experience I know that Defraging will dramatically increases performance and it simply achieved by putting back files. In your HDD, you will see that Files are packed neatly but in fact they are scattered all over the hard drive into different pieces. Defragger will allow you to put them back and arrange them in a proper order so that CPU can search for the files easily.

If you want increase the speed to any particular program like browser or something, then uninstall that from HDD and reinstall it again on the virtual RAM drive. Now you will notice that Browsing speeds will skyrocket, no matter what browser you use. However it won’t make any difference in video streaming. Like this way you can install any small, frequently used programs on virtual RAM drive in order to get 3000MB/s disk read/write speeds. This drive is not bootable.

As far as I know that it is designed only for one user. One more thing is the Thin client does not store any data on its own and so there will not be any risk. You can create connection with server without any credentials. You can create blank usernames and passwords. However if you want to get the different local user desktops, then you should get the windows based Thinclient.

The Default User profile has the matching UI restrictions as "User". First of all you need to log in as Administrator, load new user's NTUSER.DAT registry hive. There are lots of difference between the full version and the embedded version. Some features accessible on full version will not be available in embedded version. However using the Admin account you can access them all but it won’t be available for normal User. I think that you need to tweak into the registry to get some necessary things. But I am not sure about these things yet since no user tried to do so.

I was facing the same issue and after trying out a no of solution I figured out that Ethernet cable plugged in during the process and I was having a time server connected my network and that was the reason I was getting that error but then later when unplugged the Ethernet cable and then started the system recovery then the process was complete, I am not very sure if it was your case but then you can at least check it out to be at the safer side.

No, I agree to ZAHAR as he said, even I have followed his solution but then in a different way and it had solved the same issue in my case previously, this is what I had done:

First make one partition and make sure that there is not network cable connected to the computer.
When the Windows OS dvd, and language DVD installation will start then disconnect the keyboard and mouse as well and after that the installation will proceed without any issues.
I will also like to share that while choosing your country and account you can connect the mouse and then use the onscreen keyboard until the process completely end.

Just try it out and then let me know if it is helping.

How you all are doing guys? Well got a problem anyone here who can sort it out or help me in anyways? My pc was working very nice but I thought why not to get an nvidia driver for my pc and I downloaded it and installed it my computer screen is fine while login in and then till the windows welcome page everything is nice but as the desktop appear the window screen just splits off and the complete screen color is washed out this is really irritating and I don’t know what to do I have tire four different version of the driver but none of them worked just don’t know now what to do? Help me guys.
Hey you know what I was the victim of same problem once in my laptop I just tried and driver software in my pc but it pissed me too what I did was uninstalled it and then the screen was working fine I think you should do the same you should remove this driver this driver may be not compactable with your graphic card or try to install the driver that you must have got in the CD and I am sure that you will get your screen nice back and is there any problem with the screen why are you trying to disturb it without any reason.
Don’t install any driver by name they are developed with some criteria’s drivers need to satisfy that criteria’s to work properly and the one you must be downloading must not be according to the criteria so uninstall it and use your CD or download the driver with a correct model number and according to your system’s graphic card, don’t need to worry it’s a silly problem I think it would be resolved with uninstalling that driver or you can also download the driver from the official site of your product that would be a better option.

I had a same problem once when I downloaded a driver from internet and installed it I too got a same fuzzy screen and this was really a big headache for me in one of the discussion some one said me that that driver must be corrupted or I would have downloaded it from a bad link so I need to uninstall it and when I would be downloading it I have too see that I download it from a genuine site and according to my systems graphic card and I did the same and when I installed it I was the happiest person it worked very nicely and I hope this is a basic step and which solve some problem many time.

There are so many options dude you can follow anyone the best option is format your pc but you would find it a long process to have a backup and do all formatting stuff and all but this would make your pc completely fine and if not this I would ask you to do system restore and this time when you would be installing the drivers I would ask you not to use the downloaded one just do it with your CD. Or format it and install windows 7 I have never had to install any software not for audio or for any basic stuffs so windows 7 is good anyways I think you should re install your driver from CD only.

I just installed Microsoft office 2007 in my computer. I am beginner and trying to learn office 2007.I do not know how to start any application of Microsoft office2007 .Can anybody help me to solve my queries. Microsoft office 2007 is totally different from Microsoft office 2003.So, you may confuse while handling the Microsoft office 2007.because there is a lots of GUI difference between MS Office 07 and MS Office 03.to draw a circle into excel, we have just to select shapes option inside the Insert tab and then select circle shape from it, then click the mouse on sheet and drag it. Nvidia drivers causing DVD drive failure

Few days back I installed nvidia drivers on my newly bought computer, my computer was working fine till than but later I found that my DVD drive does not work properly whenever I install nvidia drivers, and when I click on the drive the window explorer gets locked is this the problem with all of you? Can anyone please help me with this problem!

Have you installed all the drivers properly as, if the drivers are not installed properly some of the functions does not work properly so this might be the reason why your DVD drive has stop working properly I think you should check with your drivers and reinstall them replacing the old one as even one of my friend was facing similar kind of problem with his computer which was then solved by reinstalling the drivers hope it works even with your computer.

Recent nVidia drivers and DWM conflict

Hey hi, I own a NVIDIA GPU for my machine, and in that as somehow I have noticed that the recent drivers didn’t clock speed down even after properly closing the games. And there is also another issue with the drivers, like it bumping up speed when we open any such application with the game, I think there is some issue in the DWM detection / Desktop Composition 3D, at some point it gets detected, and sometimes it conflicts, is there anyone having the same issue, need some help. According to me this is because of the operating system, you haven’t mentioned anything but if suppose you are running windows 7 in your machine, then I am quite sure about the issue, that it is because of the incompatibility with the operating system only, thus you should check that first, and as far as I know NVIDIA has released some new drivers for the windows 7 as you should download that only, I hope this would work.
See I was also having the same glitch and because of the direct X set up, let me explain you, if suppose you are using the DX10 , the DWM will use the same amount of consistent system memory, and off course no matter how many windows are open, the system memory will always remain high, thus you can change that also, and then try to run the same, I am not sure but some conflict would be minimized.
It seems your Desktop Window Manager is causing this error, I would say this might be some hardware glitch, because sometimes it happens that whenever we start the machine it detects the drivers, and sometimes it doesn’t, I would suggest you that you should try check the same with another GPU, it would be little bit difficult of discovering which would be better. Motorola reports fourth-quarter loss

Panasonic warns of loss, 15,000 layoffs

Japan's Panasonic, the world's No.1 plasma TV maker, warned Wednesday
it will post an annual loss of $4.3 billion and said it will cut
15,000 jobs as it grapples with a stronger yen and slowing demand.

The maker of Viera flat TVs and Lumix digital cameras joins a growing
list of electronics makers stepping up restructuring in the face of a
global slump that is shaping up to be nastier than the last major
downturn in 2001 after the IT bubble.

"Sales fell in all our business segments in the third quarter. We
expect sharper sales declines in this quarter, and profits are likely
to shrink in every segment," Panasonic director Makoto Uenoyama told a
news conference.

Sony, Toshiba, and Hitachi are all facing multi billion dollar losses,
crippled by the double whammy of falling sales and a strong Japanese
currency that eats into overseas profits when repatriated.

The yen's surge to a 13-year high against the dollar has also made
Japanese electronics less competitive than goods from South Korean
rivals such as Samsung Electronics, which are benefiting from a softer
won.

Panasonic said it will close 27 manufacturing sites in the current
fiscal year that ends in March and will carry out another round of
plant closures of a similar scale in the next business year.

It also plans to cut around 15,000 jobs, including both full-time
regular employees and contract workers. Half the cuts will be in Japan
and half overseas. It has a global workforce of about 300,000 regular
workers.

On top of dwindling sales of consumer gadgets, Panasonic's factory
automation equipment operations have come under pressure as companies
worldwide cut production and spending on manufacturing tools.

The company also said it will delay the start-up of its new LCD panel
plant in western Japan by six months, to July 2010.

Lim Ding Wen from Singapore, has a very different canvas his iPhone.

Lim,the Primary 4 student then ported Doodle Kids to the iPhone using
GScript, a JavaScript library for Apple IIGS programmers to do web
programming.

The program lets iPhone users draw with their fingers by touching the
iPhone's touchscreen and then clear the screen by shaking the phone.

"I wrote the program for my younger sisters, who like to draw," Lim
said. His sisters are aged 3 and 5.

Lim, who is fluent in six programming languages, started using the
computer at the age of 2. He has since completed about 20 programming
projects.

NEC Electronics Sharpens Image Quality

product (ASSP) to address the dramatic divergence between yesterday's
image resolution and the high resolution of today's audio-visual (AV)
display systems. Based on the company's unique single-frame
super-resolution technology, the small, low-power ASSP (part number
uPD9245GJ) reduces the blurring that occurs when low-resolution images
are expanded and displayed in high-resolution. The ASSP sharpens
out-of-focus images, smoothes rough edges and refines contours by
analyzing and processing information contained in one frame of data in
real time. Using standard video interfaces for data input and output,
designers can easily integrate the ASSP into a wide variety of
consumer, industrial, medical and automotive devices that handle

The technology is also available as an intellectual property (IP) core

Significant loss for THQ: 600 layoffs

As a whole, the video game industry has grown between 2007 and 2008,
but this success does not seem to affect everyone the same way. Thus,
while Nintendo has drawn significant benefits, other companies are in
a less favorable position.

This is particularly true of THQ, which has just announce a loss of
191.8 million (148.2 million euros) for the last quarter of its fiscal
year. A result obviously less exciting than the earnings over the same
period last year ($ 15.5 million or 11.9 million).

These figures are obviously not without consequences and THQ has
already announced the elimination of 600 positions, or 24% of its
total workforce. This restructuring has not been discussed in detail
and we do not know what areas of activity will be affected, but it is
certainly not good news.

in major metropolitan areas of India.

The study, "Why mobile advertising matters", undertaken in partnership
with TNS India that was unveiled at an exclusive event in Mumbai,
showed increasing patterns of mobile Internet use, and positive
signals for brands looking to benefit from the fast growing medium.

Nokia India, said: "People now have a social and emotional need to
stay connected 24x7 with friends, information and entertainment and
it's big news for brands that mobile web users now access the internet
through their device almost as frequently as they do through their
PC."

Findings from the research:
Mobile web users are using their mobile to access the Internet almost
as much as the traditional web (2.4 days per week versus 2.7 days)
More users are finding out about new product information via the
mobile web (28 percent) than the traditional web (26 percent)

Lenovo CEO steps down

Lenovo President and CEO William Amelio resigned Thursday after the
Chinese PC maker reported a nearly $97 million loss for its fiscal
third quarter.

Yang Yuanqing has relinquished his role as chairman to replace Amelio
as CEO, effective Thursday, the company said in a statement filed with
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing. Yang will remain as an executive
director and had served as the company's CEO until April 2005 when he
was appointed board chairman.

The announcement comes at the end of Amelio's three-year contract with
the company, Lenovo said, adding that Amelio will serve as a special
adviser until September 30.

In a separate filing with the Hong Kong exchange, Lenovo reported
losses of $96.7 million in its fiscal third quarter that ended
December 31. That compares with $172.6 million profit in the same
quarter a year earlier.

The PC maker said a market shift toward entry-level PCs, aggressive
pricing, and currency fluctuations had affected Lenovo's gross margin,
which dipped to 9.8 percent year over year. Its gross profit fell 48
percent to $354 million.

Coupled with a decline in sales, the pressure on margins resulted in
the quarter's loss, the company said.

Nvidia-based Microsoft smartphone coming?

Rumors that Microsoft will launch its own smartphones have gained
steam again, with one analyst predicting that the device may be
introduced at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in two weeks.

The Microsoft-branded phone may include Nvidia's Tegra processor and a
telecommunications baseband chip from Qualcomm, wrote Doug Freedman of
Broadpoint AmTech in a report Thursday.

Microsoft already sells the Zune portable media player, among other
devices, so it isn't a stranger to the hardware business. And it has
its Windows Mobile OS, which it licenses to other phone makers. But it
doesn't yet have a smartphone of its own.

Rumors surfaced last year that Microsoft would launch a smartphone at
the Consumer Electronics Show in January, but none materialized.
Freedman now believes it will happen at MWC, which takes place Feb.
16-19 in Barcelona.Freedman goes on to say that the company is looking
to support more than just the Windows operating systems and is also
looking to support either RIM (RIMM) or Apple (AAPL).

Windows Mobile 7.0 will Come in April 2010

Giant will release the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 to manufacturers in
April 2009, while the first handsets to sport the platform are
expected to reach the market in September this year. Also, the
operating system is set to be
showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this month.

While WM 6.5 will probably not bring many changes when compared to the
6.1 version, WM 7 is expected to be Microsoft's truly innovative OS.

As for Windows Mobile 7, the news stated that it should reach testers
in November this year, while the first devices to sport the OS should
be unveiled in April 2010. The software company has kept quiet in
regard to the features included in both Windows Mobile 6.5 and WinMo
7. Some rumors pointed towards gesture recognition and multi-touch
capabilities coming along with the future operating systems, yet
nothing else surfaced.

This might come from the fact that the company announced not long ago
that there would be fewer handsets running WinMo released to the
market, which means that the work relationship between Microsoft and
manufacturers has been tightened up a little.

SP2 for Vista, Windows Server 2008

The first release candidates (without numerals) for Service Pack 2 for
both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 will be released to the
general public for testing next week. This after private testers with
the MSDN and TechNet services receive their copies first.

For the first time, the SP2 standalone package will be delivered to
users not according to operating system build, but to byte length. So
the 32-bit standalone service pack (302 MB with the basic five
languages, 390 MB for multi-language) will update both 32-bit Vista
and 32-bit Windows Server 2008. Then there will be two 64-bit
standalones, including one which covers x64 architectures (508 MB /
622 MB) and one for Itanium 64-bit (384 MB / 396 MB). The RC will
represent a kind of dress rehearsal for this new method of
distribution.

While the big theme for Vista SP2 has been reliability improvements,
perhaps the most prominent new operating system feature undergoing its
final round of tests will be the ability to burn to Blu-ray media
using BD-R. This is being described as "the ability to record data to
Blu-ray Disc Media," which is not exactly the same as saying "burn
high-def videos." Currently, the Ultimate version of Vista SP1 enables
users to burn recorded videos from digital video sources to DVD.
Though it's technically feasible to burn high-def videos, when they're
burned to regular DVD, they won't be all that long.

First update for Windows 7 could

By the end of March the chip maker will intro two new CPUs, namely the
SU9600 and the SU3500, with clock frequencies of 1.6GHz and 1.4GHz,
respectively. The higher-clocked SU9600 will be priced at US$289 in
1000-unit tray quantities, while the SU3500 will become available for
about US$262. The two new processors, which will join Intel's existing
lineup, will be paired with the GS45 IGP chipset.

The two components are also characterized as part of a new
reorganization of Intel's low-power line that will split it into three
distinct categories, with a single ultra low-voltage Celeron chip as
the budget model, Core 2 Solo processors at the mid-range, and Core 2

the phone can overheat while the battery is being recharged.

DoCoMo said it has sold about 4,000 high-end Bold phones, and about 30
users have complained the phone's keyboard area had heated up. The
company said it has received no reports of users getting burned or of
phones catching on fire.

"This issue appears to be specifically limited to the BlackBerry Bold
devices sold in Japan since last week and sales of BlackBerry Bold
devices in other countries are unaffected by this matter," RIM said in
a statement.

RIM said it had ruled out a battery problem, but said the root cause
is still being investigated.

long term sale," Yahoo! chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen said.

"We're very focused though on building our business and doing that in
a way which we can benefit all from the search side," he added during
a Goldman Sachs technology conference here.

Microsoft has expressed interest in Yahoo!'s search business and made
a bid for the Sunnyvale, California-based firm last year but Jorgensen
did not mention the US software giant as a potential partner.

"It's extremely difficult to draw a line down the middle of the
organisation and split it in two pieces," Jorgensen said. "It doesn't
say we couldn't do it, we certainly could, but we want to do it for
the right reasons and the right economics."

Yahoo! rejected a takeover bid by Microsoft last year but Microsoft
chief executive Steve Ballmer has said the software giant remains
interested in a search partnership with Yahoo!

Speculation of such a deal has been revived with the departure of
Yahoo! chief executive Jerry Yang, who opposed the Microsoft bid, and
his replacement by new CEO Carol Bartz.

Poor drive growth in global cell phone

Six in ten people around the world now have cell phone subscriptions,
signaling that mobiles are the communications technology of choice
particularly in poor countries, according to a U.N. report published
Monday.

By the end of last year there were an estimated 4.1 billion
subscriptions globally, compared with about 1 billion in 2002, the
International Telecommunication Union said.

Fixed line subscriptions increased at a much slower pace to 1.27
billion from about 1 billion over the same period.

"There has been a clear shift to mobile cellular telephony," the
agency said, noting that developing countries now account for about
two-thirds of cell phones in use. In 2002 less than half of mobile
subscriptions globally were in the developing world, it said.

Internet use more than doubled. An estimated 23 percent of people on
the planet used the Net last year, up from 11 percent in 2002. Poor
countries still lag far behind on Internet access, with only 1 in 20
people in Africa going online in 2007 — the most recent year for which
firm figures were available.

Fixed broadband penetration increased to almost 20 percent in rich
countries, while globally just over 1 in 20 had access to fast
Internet connections at home.

The Geneva-based agency recorded the sharpest rise in mobile broadband
subscriptions. The technology, which allows users to access the Web at
high speed with mobile devices, was available to 3 percent of people
worldwide, increasing to 14 percent in developed countries.

Cablevision Internet not 'fastest' : Ad watchdog

Cablevision Systems Corp. should stop saying its Internet service is
"the fastest around," the advertising industry's self-regulatory body
said Thursday, in response to complaints from competitor Verizon
Communications Inc.

Cablevision should also stop saying it has "America's most advanced
fiber optic network," the National Advertising Division Council of
Better Business Bureaus said. Like other cable companies, Cablevision
uses optical fiber in its network but connects homes with coaxial
cable, not optical fiber.

Verizon's new FiOS service, which competes with Cablevision in New
York and New Jersey, does draw optical fiber all the way to homes.
Cable companies around the country have been claiming in ads that
their networks "are fiber" as a way to counter Verizon's marketing.

The NAD said Cablevision was free to say it has an "advanced hybrid
fiber optic network."

Cablevision said it would take the NAD's opinions into account for
future advertising. Spokesman Jim Maiella noted that the NAD supported
Cablevision's claim that its cable modems are up to five times faster
than Verizon's DSL service, which predates FiOS.

Cablevision's Optimum Online Internet service has a maximum download
speed of 30 megabits per second. FiOS can do 50 megabits per second.

Cablevision challenged Verizon's advertising claims for FiOS last
year. The NAD recommended, among other things, that Verizon stop
claiming that FiOS produced a TV picture that's "so much more bright."
The brightness of a TV picture depends on the settings of the TV, not
on the signal.

Verizon was also sued last week by the state of New Jersey, which said
the company charged consumers higher prices for FiOS than those quoted
in door-to-door solicitations and ads. Verizon has disputed the
allegations.
